This water pichter and its mate, in the art nouveau style, would have directly competed with Gorham's Martele line of silver, which had been a great success for Gorham in the late 1890s and made its international debut at the 1900 Paris Exposition. The matching pitcher was sold by Christie's, London, 15 May 2002, lot 6.
