ATTRIBUTED TO THE ORESTES PAINTER, CIRCA 440 B.C.
The obverse with two youthful horsemen racing in opposite directions past a fluted column in order to knock a dinos off the top, both depicted nude, the youth to the right with the reins in his left hand, his goad in his lowered right, the overturned dinos below, the youth to the left with the reins in his right hand, his goad in his raised left hand, his horse with its head turned back; the reverse with three draped youths, the two to the left each with a walking stick, a pair of jumping weights hanging above; the panels framed by a double row of dots on either side, black tongues above, with rays above the foot, dotted lotus bud chain on the neck, a double row of dots on the rim, dotted lotus bud chain on the upper surface of the rim, palmettes on the handle-plates, graffiti on the underside of the foot
