    Post Lot Text

Jonaski Takuma was a Japanese egg carver working in Sydney, c.1895-1910, with a shop in Sydney's Strand Arcade, carving eggs to be mounted by silversmiths. Examples of his work are in the collection of Sydney's Powerhouse Museum. Taking into account the date of the inscription & Takuma's working dates, it is possible that the egg replaced the original but must have been made specially for the mount.
