    AN AUSTRIAN SILVER-GILT METAL, SILVER AND ENAMELLED JEWEL CASKET
    APPARENTLY UNMARKED, LATE 19TH CENTURY
    On oblong base with four foliate scroll feet applied with rock crystal cabochons, the body of the casket with scroll angles applied with winged dragons and grotesque masks above, the side inset with panels of strap work and foliage enamelled in black and white and heightened with gilt, the centres applied with foiled rock crystal cabochons, the front panel with concealed keyhole, the cover applied with the figure of sleeping Sisera formed in gilt and baroque pearls, his cloak set with garnets, the figure of his wife with tent peg in her hand standing over him, similarly formed with gilt and baroque pearls, the cover further applied with sword, shield and helmet and twice with three scroll brackets, one still retaining scent flask, the cover with shrew, bird and foliage border, revealing an oval compartment with pierced cover, marked with a French import mark
