    GREEK, 19TH CENTURY
    In the centre the youthful, beardless image of the Saviour seated on a rainbow, blessing and displaying the open Gospels, his cross appearing above, his feet supported by wheels of fire, the inscription Jesus Christ, the Resurrection and Life written at either side, his Mother and John the Baptist forming a Deisis, crowds of angels, saints and martyrs portrayed against a starry background, below the circular mandorla at the left corner the Patriarch Abraham with the poor man Lazarus on his lap and a group of children next to him, the opposite corner occupied by the righteous thief carrying his cross, the top corners depicting Christ offering the Eucharist to the Apostles
