    QING DYNASTY (1644- 1991)

    The very slightly tapered cylindrical body well carved on the exterior with a serene landscape depicting bamboo and a bare tree growing from the slope, and further vegetation and scattered rocks on the ground, incised with a five-character eight-column poem signed by Huang Xiaosong and dated to Qianlong bingwu, corresponding to 1786, sixth month of the lunar calendar

    Huang Yi (1744-1803), also known as Dayi, and Xiaosong, belonged to the well-known group of seal carving artists, Xiling si jia, Four Masters of Xiling, of Qianlong and Jiaqing period. Since all four came from Zhejiang province, they are also known as Zhe pai, the Zhe School. Huang is an accomplished painter in the style of Dong Qichang, as well as a knowledgeable scholar in classical literature and a poet.
