A GERMAN SILVER-GILT MOUNTED IVORY TANKARD
AUGSBURG, CIRCA 1665, MAKER'S MARK APPARENTLY AN OPEN BOOK
On spreading foot chased with scrolling foliage, the ivory body finely carved with a classical battle scene (some losses), the handle cast with caryatid and auricular scroll work, the cover with similarly chased centre with bifurcated thumbpiece and detachable Roman soldier finial, marked on foot, collar and cover and with assay scrape beneath and on cover, also marked with later Austrian control mark
