Lot Essay

The sitter was the daughter of Sir Thomas Twisden, 1st Bt., of Bradbourne, Kent, one of the Judges of the Court of the King's Bench. This portrait was painted after her marriage to Sir Thomas Style of Wateringbury, as his second wife. A companion portrait was also painted of the sitter as Miss Margaret Twisden before her marriage and was sold as lot 335, Wateringbury Place, Maidstone, Kent; Christie's, sale on the premises, 31 May - 2 June 1978. Lady Style died on 5 November, 1718.
