INDENTLieutenant Harry Dudley Blackburn, 43 Squadron Royal Flying Corps, formerly Artists' Rifles and Royal Berkshire Regiment, was killed in action on a special mission whilst flying as Observer in a Sopwith 1 ½ Strutter (No.A1073), 5 April 1917 (see Cross and Cockade Journal 2,1975).
Second Lieutenant Andrew Ormerod, 59 Squadron, Royal Flying Corps, formerly Royal Horse and Royal Field Artillery, was killed in action whilst flying as Observer Gunner in an R.E.8 (No.A3225), 13 April 1917. (Six aircraft from the Squadron were shot down that day by Von Richtofen's Squadron, Jasta 11- see also Lot 167.) He is commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
Lieutenant Hugh Quihapton Nickalls, Royal Devonshire Yeomanry attached 52 Squadron, Royal Flying Corps, was killed in action whilst flying as Observer in an R.E.8 (No.A4607), 29 July 1917. (See obituary in Eaton College Chronicle 28.2.1918).
Second Lieutenant James Herbert Mesham, Royal Air Force, formerly Royal Naval Air Service, was killed after a mid-air collision on 13 July 1918 (Liverpool's Scroll of Fame refers).
