Lot Essay

According to Dr. Kenneth W. Maddox, at least nine versions of the Hackensack Meadows in watercolor were painted, including works in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, The New Jersey State Museum, and the Newington-Cropsey Foundation. One oil of the subject is also recorded that was painted in 1896.

This watercolor will be included in the forthcoming catalogue raisonné of the artist's work, which is being prepared by The Newington-Cropsey Foundation, Hastings-on-Hudson, New York.
