These very rare awards were struck in Holland by Beeger of Utrecht at the request of Colonel S.H. Van Diggelen, Commanding Officer of the Johannesburg Vrijwilliger Corps and awarded to his men who fought against Jameson at Doornkop and, later, to those who went on the Swaziland Expedition of 1898. Whether they were awarded to Officers and men, or only Officers, is obscure but only about 10 Medals are known to have survived. They have also been seen with clasps for the two events.
