    The first depicting two snails emerging from its shells and turning back to look at each and other forming a compact composition, the fleshy parts of the mollusc forming the himotoshi; the second carved as a monkey struggling to free himself from a large eagle's claw, the scaly skin of the bird's foot and the monkey's fur naturalistically rendered with finely incised lines, the monkey's eyes inlaid in dark horn, inscribed Sozan
