Lot Essay

This bear is one of only fifty dozen black Steiff bears ordered specifically for England. The reason for his black mohair was the Titanic disaster on the 14th April, 1912. The whole country was in mourning as there was hardly a single well-situated family who had not lost a relation or friend. Everything and everyone was in black, including this bear.
