Each with breche d'alep marble top above a bowed door decorated with Chinese figures in pavilions enclosing two shelves, on splayed legs with rocaille sabots, the doors Chinese lacquer, the surrounds probably European decoration, each bearing false J. DUBOIS JME stamp, one inscribed Blanc, restorations to the decorations, particularly to the feet

Lot Essay

This pair of encoignures was, by repute, in the collection of the Talleyrand family, whose famed member Charles Maurce de Talleyrand Périgord, prince de Bénévent (1754-1838) served as a diplomat in various capacities in France from the Ancien Régime through the reign of Louis-Philippe. On 26 November 2005, Christie's, Paris held a single-owner sale for Héli de Talleyrand-Périgord, duc de Talleyrand, a descendant of the famed diplomat which included French and Continental furniture, objets d'art and old master pictures.
