The monogram is probably that of Elizabeth Anne, Marchioness of Exeter (1757-1837). She married, firstly, Douglas Hamilton, 8th Duke of Hamilton, and secondly, Henry Cecil, 1st Marquess of Exeter, in 1800.
The distinctive scroll and cartouche feet and grotesque bird's head on the handle are common to several of Lamerie's small cream boats. Examples include one from 1736, illustrated in Ellenor Alcorn, Beyond the Maker's Mark: Paul de Lamerie Silver in the Cahn Collection, 2006, illus. no. 29 and one from 1738, sold from the Jamie Ortiz-Patiño Collection, sold Sotheby's New York, 22 April 1998, lot 19. A third example of 1736 sold Sotheby's, London, 18 November, 1965, lot 62.
