Lot Essay

Charoux was born in Vienna and studied at the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts and at the Vienna Adademy. With the advent of the the war, Charoux emigrated to London in 1935, exhibiting at the Festival of Britain in 1951 and the South Bank Exhibition in 1952, he became an R.A. in 1956.

The present work is a maquette for the life-size sculpture 'The Neighbours' which stands in Highbury Quadrant Estate in Islington.
