The model immediately enjoyed enormous popularity amongst collectors and was available in white gold or pink gold only until 2007 when the production of these two versions ceased. Reference 5970 in yellow gold was in production only in 2008. From 2008 until the end of production, the model was available exclusively in platinum. Reference 5970 was replaced by the smaller reference 5270 (please see Lot 2681 and 2682 in this sale), introduced at Baselworld in 2011, which boasts an additional day/night indication on the dial, as well as a separate leap year cycle and is equipped with in-house calibre CH 29-535 PS Q.Reference 5970 is equipped with the movement based on a Lémania ébauche, heavily modified and finished by Patek Philippe and is the last perpetual calendar chronograph of the company featuring the Geneva seal on the movement as Patek Philippe began stamping their movements with the Patek Philippe Seal from mid-2009 as a new quality benchmark for its mechanical timepieces. For an examples of Patek Philippe Reference 5970, please see Lot 2683 in white gold and Lot 2684 in platinum in this sale.
