Lot Essay

Accompanied by a Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch in 2008 and its subsequent sale on August 12th of the same year. Further accompanied an undated Patek Philippe Certificate of Origin. Further accompanied by product literature, a Patek Philippe presentation box, Patek Philippe presentation slipcase, Patek Philippe leather envelope, outer packaging and tie-tag.

Reference 5070 was the first chronograph-only reference produced serially by Patek Philippe since the reference 1463 was discontinued in the late 1960s. It was introduced in 1998 in yellow gold only, then beginning in 2001 in white gold, in 2003 pink gold and in 2008 it was produced in platinum. It is thought that for each version color that production ceased after reaching 1000 pieces. Approximately 500 pieces were produced in platinum. With a case diameter of 42 millimeters, it is one of the largest watches that Patek Philippe ever produced.

The present factory sealed watch is offered to collectors as 'complete,' with its original certificate of origin, presentation box, and other treasured accompaniments. Yet it is made even more desirable as to the best of our knowledge this watch is one of the earliest examples ever manufactured in platinum, fresh to market from the collection of a distinguished gentleman, and the earliest known 5070P to ever appear at market.
