Avant-Garde: Photographs from the Shalom Shpilman Collection

Christie’s is pleased to offer a selection of works from the Shpilman Institute for Photography featuring notable examples of the first half of the 20th century.

The sale presents striking works of the Avant-Garde movement in Photography with various examples of artists who used the medium to experiment new techniques; photomontage, double exposure, solarisation, photogram made by renowned artists such as Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, Raoul Haussman, Hans Bellmer, Berenice Abbott, Maurice Tabard or Alexander Rodchenko.

The selection also features examples of works pushing the boundaries of our classical perception from Landscape to still lives or nudes including prints by Florence Henri, Cecil Beaton, Joseph Sudek, Frantisek Drtikol or Germaine Krull.
