The sale of Important American Furniture, Folk Art & Decorative Arts achieved $3,322,313/£2,059,834/€2,558,181 and was 85% sold by lot and 93% by value. The top lot of the sale was an important Chippendale Carved Mahogany Easy Chair, Philadelphia, 1760-1765, realizing $1,116,500/£692,230/€859,705.

Andrew Holter, Head of Department, said: “Christie’s was honored to have been entrusted by the Philadelphia Museum of Art with the sale of their ‘Garvan’ carved Chippendale mahogany easy chair, which achieved $1.16 million — the third highest price for the form.  In addition, we were proud to, once again, represent the Wunsch Americana Foundation, which included the sale of a superb Chippendale mahogany tassel-back side chair, which realized $218,500, soaring well-above its estimate.  We look forward to our Americana Week sales in January 2013.”
