The horse and rider on the recto was probably drawn in preparation for Stefano's etching of 1645 (A. De Vesme, with Introduction and Additions by P.D. Massar, Stefano Della Bella: Catalogue Raisonné, New York, 1971, I, p. 75, no. 175, II, p. 48, fig. 175).
