The H.M.S. Ajax was a 74-gun Third Rate ship of the line built by John Randall & Co. and launched in 1798. In 1801 she participated in the British Egyptian campaign against Napoleon. During the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, Ajax was seventh in line in Admiral Lord Nelson's column. A fire broke out while the Ajax was anchored near Tenedos on the coast of the Aegean Sea in February of 1807. It quickly burned out of control and the ship was lost, along with the lives of 250 of her crew.
