The Jagdish Temple, dedicated to an aspect of Krishna as Jagannatharyn, was built in 1652 by Maharana Jagat Singh of Udaipur.

Gleich worked in Berlin and Shneberg, painting landscapes, marine subjects and figural works. This work was painted during or shortly after a trip the artist made through India and Ceylon in 1909. Several of his paintings are in the collection of the museum in Shneberg, including a view of an Indian temple.
