Lot Essay

The present lot was published in Semina number 9. The photograph showing the assassination of Lee Harvey Oswald was manipulated by Berman, who doubled the image of the agent in charge of guarding Oswald. Michael McClure, a West Coast poet, wrote the poem in reaction to Berman's picture.
