Isidore Stanislas Henri Helman (1743-1806)
Faits Mémorables des Empereurs de la Chine
24 engraved plates, published Paris: chez l'Auteur and M. Ponce, unframed
S. 17 x 23¼in. (43.2 x 59cm.)
This series of engravings, which illustrate the memorable acts of the emperors of China, are after the original Chinese drawings (according to Cohen/De Ricci, by P. Jésuite Attiret), held in the Cabinet du Roi. Large plates were engraved on the orders of the Emperor, and distributed only in China. Only a few rare proofs remained in Europe, and it was after these that Helman engraved these reduced versions.
