    Reappearing after 80 years of obscurity, this selection of exceptionally fine illuminated manuscripts from the library of the Alsace industrialist, tobacco magnate, benefactor and collector Maurice Burrus will be offered for sale at Christie’s King Street on 25 May 2016. The manuscripts range in date from the 12th to the 18th Centuries, and represent both sacred and secular subjects, from tales of courtly love and valorous deeds to allegorical voyages of spiritual discovery, illustrated treatises on Renaissance war machines, and lavishly painted prayerbooks.
