Christie’s Magazine

July 2020 Issue

Welcome to the July issue of Christie’s Magazine, which is dedicated to what we’ve called ‘The Female Century’, and highlights the enormous contribution that women have made to the art world in our lifetime – painters, sculptors and photographers, of course, but also collectors and curators, gallery directors and museum founders. In these pages you will find more than 50 mini-profiles of distinguished and inspirational women who are active and influential in the art ecosphere today.

Also in this issue are longer features about three towering female figures: Peggy Guggenheim, who was perhaps the first to draw the world’s attention to the fact that contemporary women artists were woefully under-appreciated; Louise Bourgeois, whose monumental sculptures are profound meditations on motherhood and the mother-daughter relationship; and Marina Abramović, whose art is uniquely terrifying and reckless – but also awe-inspiring.

Our coverage of Christie’s July auction highlights is led by ONE: A Global Sale of the 20th Century, alongside our Geneva, Hong Kong and London seasons, and an expanded offering of online-only sales.
