Comment: Sophie Churcher, Specialist, Christie’s commented:
“We are delighted with these strong results which demonstrate the growing demand for the best in 19th and 20th Century graphic design.
Avant-Garde and Modernist works commanded the highest prices, with Henry Clemens Van de Velde’s icon of art nouveau ‘Tropon’ leading the sale. Exceptional results were also achieved for British travel posters, such as Alexeieff’s’ Night Scotsman and McKnight Kauffer’s 1930 masterpiece for London Underground which both more than doubled their pre-sale estimates.”
