Comment: Clare Borthwick, Head of Sale commented:

“The legendary quality of Hermès handbags continues to draw new collectors and Christie’s May Elegance sale saw unprecedented interest in this popular collecting area resulting in fifty-eight bags selling for almost £700,000. Discerning buyers focused on condition, buying the very best examples of ‘Birkin’ and ‘Kelly’ bags in unusual colours and exotic skins, leading to many bidding wars in the saleroom across the various means of bidding; over a quarter of the sale was bought or directly underbid online.

We look forward to the final day of bidding for our online-only sale on 31 May, offering four one-of-a-kind Passe-Guide Hermès bags directly from the fashion house, with proceeds to benefit The Royal Academy of Arts.”
