New York – Christie’s is pleased to announce that Sonya Roth has joined Christie’s as Managing Director, Southern California.
As an active participant within Los Angeles’s vibrant art scene for the past decade, Ms. Roth was most recently Co-Founder of the Director’s Council of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles and a Board member of LAXART. From 2007 to 2014, she was Deputy Attorney General, Criminal Division for the State of California, Los Angeles County. She is widely recognized among the region’s most active and involved supporters of the growing contemporary art scene and a champion of the current generation of emerging artists and collectors.
In her new role, Ms. Roth will lead the firm’s growth strategy for the Southern California region, focusing on client engagement and strategic development opportunities. As a skilled networker, a key component of her development strategy will be to lead a regular program of client-focused Christie’s events in the area, bringing together key art-world influencers from private, trade and institutional circles.
Sonya joins an experienced and committed team of specialists and executives in Christie’s LA office who support the needs of the region’s private collectors, trade clients, and institutions and provide expertise in all areas of fine art and luxury, including Asian Art, American Art, Impressionist and Modern Art, Jewelry and Wine. She will work closely with Peter Kloman and Rita Boyle in Christie’s Los Angeles office, and with Ellanor Notides, Managing Director for San Francisco and the Northwest region. Ms. Roth will report into Brook Hazelton, Christie’s President for the Americas.
“Sonya is a strong addition to Christie’s West Coast team, and we are delighted to welcome her onboard at such an exciting and dynamic time within the Los Angeles art world,” noted Mr. Hazelton. “Many in the community know Sonya already as a great convener of individuals who are passionate about great art and collecting. She brings a wealth of experience and creative leadership to a vibrant region that is ripe with exciting and engaging opportunities.”
A native of the Los Angeles area, Ms. Roth earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees on the East Coast, at Wellesley College and at Boston University, respectively, before returning to the West Coast to earn her JD. She resides in Hancock Park with her husband Joshua Roth, two daughters, and a growing art collection.
