Christie’s Contemporary Edition auction on Wednesday, 4 March achieved the highest ever sale total for Contemporary Edition sales, with a combined total of $2,385,750. The top lot of morning session was Jasper Johns, Figure 5, from Color Numeral Series, which achieved $43,750. The top lot of the afternoon session and sale was Andy Warhol, $ (1): one plate, which realized $87,500. Other exceptional prices were achieved for David Hockney, Sun State I which realized $68,750 and Richard Diebenkorn, Touched Red which achieved $50,000.

Christie’s Post-War to Present auction on Thursday, 5 March totaled $21,956,750, selling 87% by value and 84% by lot. The top lot of the sale was Robert Indiana’s, LOVE, which realized $1,335,000. Exceptional prices were also achieved by Kenny Scharf, LOVE, which realized $525,000 against a high estimate of $50,000 and set a new auction record for the artist and Charles White’s, Brother John Sellers, which achieved $187,500.

The sale saw very strong results for female artists, including the second top prices for Alma Thomas with Flash of Spring, which realized $819,000, (following her top price set at Christie’s in November 2019) and Mary Bauermeister with Peng-Cil, which sold for $162,500, more than doubling its high estimate. Works by Julie Curtiss, Nina Chanel Abney and Shara Hughes also surpassed their high estimates. 

The group of Artwork To Benefit BOMB Magazine's Endowment Fund was 100% sold, as was the selection from the The Collection of Richard L. Weisman that was included in the sale, continuing the collection’s ongoing success at Christie’s.
