Christie’s first office outside the UK was established in Italy in 1958. Today, our Italian headquarters are located in Milan. Every spring, Christie’s Italy presents Thinking Italian Milan, a curated sale dedicated to the best of 20th-century Italian art, in our prestigious Palazzo Clerici premises. Our presence in the region is strengthened by our office in Rome, and a strong network of representatives in every major Italian city.
Christie’s has an excellent record selling Italian art and collections. Our Thinking Italian Milan auction (previously known as Milan Modern and Contemporary) has seen superb results over the past six years, consistently achieving over 90% sell-through rates by lot and value. Our 2018 sale set a new auction record for an Italian post-war artwork sold in the country
(Piero Manzoni’s Achrome, which sold for €2.9 million), with the overall sale achieving the highest total for any auction in Italy last year
