What is Work Experience?
Christie’s London offer a limited number of work experience placements per year; placements are between two to four weeks at set intervals throughout the year. This will ensure candidates join us at our busiest times which will provide the most interesting and meaningful experience. During these intakes, we will also be able to provide networking opportunities and an allowance for lunch and travel expenses. The programme is run for the benefit of applicants with a genuine interest in art, business, and a career in the Art World. We aim to provide our Work Experience candidates with an understanding of our business through a hands-on experience with the company.
Basis of Arrangement
Work Experience is carried out on a voluntary basis; it is unpaid but we do provide an allowance of £15 a day for lunch and travel.
Work Experience must be arranged and authorised via the Human Resources Department. We undertake a selection process based on formal criteria; the eligibility criteria for work experience are:
• Must be a minimum of 18 at time of placement
• Must have registered interest in the Work Experience Programme using the online form (link below)
• Must be able to commit to the stipulated timeslots (we cannot accommodate placements outside of these dates)
• Must sign, and comply with, the Christie’s confidentiality agreement
Duration and Timing of Work Experience
Work Experience placements can range from between two and four weeks during specific slots throughout the year.
Timeslots for 2018:
•12th March – 27th April
•4th June – 29th June
•9th July – 27th July
•12th November – 14th December
The standard hours worked by Christie’s employees are 9am to 5pm with a one lunch break; to ensure that each individual undertaking Work Experience benefits to the greatest extent possible from their placement, we advise that they mirror these hours. (However, as volunteers, our Work Experience candidates are not obliged to work these hours)
Professional and appropriate attire is expected of all Work Experience placements in accordance with the Christie’s dress code; jackets must always be worn in public areas including Salerooms and Front of House areas.
Choice of Department
Successful applicants will be allocated to an available department that most closely matches their preferences. Although we make all reasonable efforts to place individuals in their preferred department, this is not always possible due to the volume of interest versus places available. Please be assured that wherever individuals are placed they will gain valuable insight into Christie’s, whether in a specialist, business or administrative department.
