The Exceptional Sale

The Exceptional Sale

Sale Overview

This July, the London Exceptional Sale 2025 will present a dazzling array of rare masterpieces with distinguished provenances, ranging from Madame de Pompadour to the ducal families of Britain.

Each area of the classic arts is represented, with French and English furniture, sculpture, silver, porcelain, antiquities, clocks, precious objects by Fabergé, as well as iconic pieces of natural and maritime history.

Highlights include a magnificent pair of sculptural silver tureens by Paul Storr from the 6th Duke of Devonshire’s Grand Service, and a bureau à cylindre by Jean-Henri Riesener of exceptional quality which once formed part of the lavish collections of the magnates Stephens Lyne-Stephens and Ludwig Neumann, before being acquired by the Earl of Harewood for Chesterfield House and finally the Viscount Wimborne.

A further highlight is the battle scarred Union Jack flown from HMS Spartiate at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. Replete with shards of metal embedded in the fabric and fragments of wood splinters throughout, this is a rare and deeply evocative object from Admiral Horatio Nelson’s most famous and most costly victory.
