154ème Vente des Vins des Hospices de Beaune

Sale Overview
Christie’s is proud to have been hosting this, the oldest charity wine sale since 2005 in support of the preservation of historic monuments of the Hôtel-Dieu and the maintenance of the modern hospital in Beaune. Furthermore, each year the ‘Pièce des présidents’ is dedicated by the Hospices de Beaune to one or more non-profit organisations. This year 47 different wines or ‘Cuvées’ named after the benefactors who gave their vineyards to the Hospices de Beaune, allowing it to become one of the greatest wine estates in Burgundy, will be presented. The wines will be offered ‘en primeur’ from this year’s harvest in barrels, referred to as ‘pièces’ in Burgundy. They will then need to be tended by a négociant-éleveur before being bottled, one or two years after the sale, in a format of your choice. A ‘pièce’ or barrel corresponds to approximately 288 bottles or 24 cases of 12 bottles (75 cl.). A week before the sale the tasting notes of Anthony Hanson, Master of Wine and International Consultant to Christie’s Wine department, will be published on christies.com.
