The Collection of Agnes Gund: Online Part I

The Collection of Agnes Gund: Online Part I

À propos de la vente

The Collection of Agnes Gund: Online Part I, sold to benefit the Gund Art Foundation, brings together a superb selection of Post-War and Contemporary art from one of the most consequential collectors and patrons of our time. Headlining the sale is Gerhard Richter’s 2.12.05 (Snow-White), with additional highlights including works by Jasper Johns, Joseph Cornell, Jean Dubuffet, Claes Oldenburg, Sol LeWitt and Stanley Whitney. Moving from Surrealist assemblage and Art Brut through Pop, Minimalism and Conceptual art to contemporary abstraction, this Post-War and Contemporary Art online auction traces an eye formed over six decades, often in direct conversation with the artists themselves.

Gund served as President of the Museum of Modern Art from 1991 to 2002 and gave more than 800 works to its collection. In 1977 she founded Studio in a School, bringing professional artists into public school classrooms, and in 2017 she directed $100 million from the sale of Roy Lichtenstein’s Masterpiece to establish the Art for Justice Fund in support of criminal justice reform. For Gund, collecting was never separate from giving, and proceeds from this sale will continue that work through the Gund Art Foundation.
