Christie’s and CORE announce a new partnership devoted to raising critical funds for CORE’s COVID-19 relief efforts across the United States

New York | 11 & 14 May 2021

Christie’s and CORE (Community Organized Relief Effort), are pleased to announce a new partnership devoted to raising critical funds for CORE’s COVID-19 relief efforts across the United States.

CORE, founded by Sean Penn and Ann Lee, is a disaster response organization dedicated to saving lives impacted by or vulnerable to crisis. Since March 2020, CORE has been working on the frontlines with public and private partners to provide free COVID-19 testing, essential resources, contact tracing programs, and life-saving vaccines to communities most affected by the pandemic. CORE’s mission aims to address the inherent intersection of disaster and social justice; whether it be in their domestic or international relief programs, CORE is the first on the ground to provide critical services to communities who need them most.

Over the past year, CORE has provided over 5 million free COVID-19 tests, distributed over 50,000 hygiene kits and built 125 shelters on the Navajo Nation, conducted over 4,000 contact tracing home visits to provide essential resource coordination, and administered over 1 million vaccines and counting in the U.S. CORE’s COVID-19 relief program focuses on low-income communities of color, providing direct access to the vaccine and a variety of essential services. In the vaccination effort, CORE and partners have pioneered an innovative mobile vaccination program, in Los Angeles and Georgia, to address the urgent health equity issues within low-income and rural populations and communities of color.

Throughout the years, CORE has received an overwhelming support from the art world and, through its partnership with Christie's, has been able to raise over 4 million dollars in auctions to support programs in Haiti, Bahamas, Puerto Rico and the US.

The selection of contemporary artworks that have been generously donated by the artists themselves will be sold during our 21st Century Evening Sale and Post-War and Contemporary Art Day Sale in New York, offered on 11 May. Proceeds from the sale will directly benefit CORE’s COVID-19 programs across Los Angeles, Navajo Nation, Washington D.C., Chicago, New Orleans, Georgia, and North Carolina.
