The prolific American artist Jeff Koons has once again joined BMW to create his dream car, THE 8 X JEFF KOONS — a specially designed edition of the M850i xDrive Gran Coupe. On 4 April, Christie’s New York will host an auction of the very last publicly available example of THE 8 X JEFF KOONS produced by BMW in Bavaria, Germany. All proceeds from the auction will benefit the International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children (ICMEC), a non-profit NGO that Jeff Koons has personally been involved with for over 20 years.
“My edition of the BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe is a dream come true. It is completely unique, very special to me and I’ve wanted to create a special edition BMW for a long time,” said Jeff Koons. “What matters is how we relate to each other and our awareness of everything we are surrounded by. This principle drove my creative vision for THE 8 X JEFF KOONS, and it’s an exciting next chapter of co-creation with BMW.”
THE 8 X JEFF KOONS represents one of the most extensive custom factory production processes ever undertaken by BMW and its unique exterior and interior liveries are authentic artistic creations by Jeff Koons himself. The vehicle’s exterior features expressive and striking graphic design, combining 11 different exterior colours. In particular, Koons incorporated many shades of blue to symbolize the vastness of space, tying into the BMW 8 Series as a globally available product — a key theme of Koons’ work being without borders.
Christie’s live charity auction at Rockefeller Center in New York will highlight the final example of THE 8 X JEFF KOONS, offering the most exclusive version available from the original set of 99 as this vehicle showcases the artist’s signature. The livestream of the sale will broadcast on the Event.Gives platform where clients can also register to bid online. The live event will begin at 7:15pm on April 4 in advance of the charity auction at 8:30pm.
Ahead of the auction event, THE 8 X JEFF KOONS will be on public display in Rockefeller Center from 1–4 April. Find out more at www.bmwusanews.com.
