This March at Christie’s Dubai

Dubai | March 2018

Christie’s Post-War and Contemporary Art and Important Watches auctions in Dubai totalled a spectacular US$10,121,000, with a combined sell-through rate of 80.5% by lot as well as by value. Iranian artist Sohrab Sepehri’s Untitled (from the Abstract series) led our Post-War and Contemporary Art sale on 22 March, selling for US$287,500. Elsewhere, five new artist world auction records were set, including for Huguette Caland and Hussein Madi, confirming the growing international interest for art from the Middle East.

Important Watches on 23 March saw a new auction record established for any watch sold in the Middle East with the sale of King Farouk’s personalised Patek Philippe 1518, commissioned by the monarch in 1944. The watch sold for US$912,500 after nearly five minutes of lively bidding in the saleroom and on the telephone.

Christie’s is now inviting consignments to our upcoming Post-War and Contemporary Art and Watches auctions. Please do not hesitate to contact us for a free and confidential valuation of your individual pieces and collection.
