Dom Pérignon

Established as the prestige cuvée of Moët & Chandon, Dom Pérignon stands among the most recognisable names in Champagne. Celebrated for their vintage bottles guided by nature and time, the Maison remains renowned for its rarity and craftsmanship.

Named after the 17th-century Benedictine monk Dom Pierre Pérignon, the Maison draws on a legacy rooted in the vineyards of Hautvillers. Pérignon started producing wines at the Hautvillers monastery in 1668, where he refined fermentation methods which established the style of Champagne we know today.

Dom Pierre Pérignon’s ambition to ‘make the best wine in the world’ continues to guide the Maison. Though its first vintage dates to 1921, Dom Pérignon was not released commercially until 1936. The Maison’s defining principle remains unchanged: vintage-only production. Though released just a year apart, the Dom Pérignon 2012 is full and varied, while the Dom Pérignon 2013 offers a more delicate and elegant profile, with each release reflecting the character of its harvest.

The Maison produces a tightly curated range, including its flagship Vintage, with 12 rare Dom Pérignon Vintage 1964 bottles sold at Christie’s for £8,437 in 2007. Another popular release is the Plénitude series, introduced under former cellar master Richard Geoffroy, with this series offering extended aging.

Quality and savoir-faire underpin each release, to ensure both rarity and depth. Geoffroy once said, ‘If a harvest does not meet Dom Pérignon’s criteria, there will be no vintage that year. This is not a value judgement, but an aesthetic vision.’

The Maison’s bottle design remains distinctive, with a shield-shaped label and restrained, almost architectural-style bottle, which balances heritage and modernity. Today, under the umbrella of LVMH, Dom Pérignon continues to occupy a unique position at the intersection of wine, art and luxury.
