Hermès JPG Birkin

The Hermès JPG Birkin was introduced in 2004, during Jean-Paul Gaultier’s tenure as the maison's Creative Director. Also known as the Shoulder Birkin, the style reimagined the iconic Birkin silhouette by extending its proportions and adding elongated handles designed to sit comfortably on the shoulder. Available in a 42cm size and a rarer 40cm version, it created a distinctive, easy-to-wear ‘East-West’ shape.

Though the original design was discontinued in 2013, Hermès reintroduced the style in 2024 as the Shoulder Birkin Light. Vintage JPG Birkins remain highly prized for their rarity — in May 2026, Christie’s sold a shiny Rose Tyrien Porosus Crocodile JPG Shoulder Birkin 42 with palladium hardware for HK$1.9 million.
