Umberto Boccioni

Umberto Boccioni (1882–1916) was an Italian painter and sculptor, best known as a leading figure in the Futurist movement. He sought to capture the energy, speed and dynamism of modern life, emphasising movement and transformation in his work. His most famous sculpture, Unique Forms of Continuity in Space (1913), embodies the Futurist obsession with motion and the mechanisation of the human form. Though his career was cut short by his untimely death during World War I, Boccioni’s innovative approach had a lasting impact on modern art, influencing both sculpture and painting in the 20th century.
