20th/21st Century Evening Sale

20th/21st Century Evening Sale

Sale Overview

In celebration of Christie’s 40th Anniversary in Asia, this March Christie’s Hong Kong is honored to present 20th/21st Century Evening Sale with a landmark selection of artworks that brings together an outstanding group of modern and contemporary masterpieces from across the world. Leading the sale is Gerhard Richter's seminal and incandescent Abstraktes Bild. Composed of sweeping fields of vivid red layered through the artist’s signature squeegee technique, the work radiates a striking luminosity and now makes its auction debut. The sale is also headlined by a remarkable ensemble of works by renowned masters of the 20th century. Zao Wou-Ki’s exceptional Cathédrale et ses environs - 07.08.51-08.09.51 marks his modern interpretation of the European Grand Tour and exemplifies his early stylistic breakthrough; Marc Chagall’s Pastorale offers a dreamlike celebration of the artist’s expressive use of color; and with prestigious provenance, Sanyu’s Kneeling Horse on Carpet likewise appears at auction for the first time.

The sale additionally features remarkable works by leading Asian artists, including Yayoi Kusama, Takashi Murakami, Lee Ufan, and Adrien-Jean Le Mayeur De Merprès, alongside significant works by prominent Western figures such as Pablo Picasso, Claude Monet, and Vincent Van-Gogh. Together, these exceptional works form a global panorama of artistic innovation, underscoring the depth and breadth of this season’s Evening Sale.
