This March, Christie’s Hong Kong proudly presents the 20th Century Day Sale, celebrating 40 years in Asia with a thoughtfully curated selection of exceptional works. Positioned at the crossroads of global artistic dialogue, these pieces capture timeless aesthetics amid today’s ever-evolving art world.
Headlining the sale are Zao Wou-Ki’s 18.03.63 from his legendary Hurricane Period and 01.04.82, a luminous example of his later lyrical abstraction. The auction further features a captivating circus scene by Marc Chagall, a picturesque French countryside by Claude Monet, a 1937 abstract gouache by Joan Miro, and a serene autumn riverbank by Wu Guanzhong. These are presented alongside works by Korean and Japanese masters Chung Sang-Hwa, Park Seo-Bo, and Kazuo Shiraga.
Highlights from Southeast Asia include the Melchior Dejouany collection, offering a rare glimpse into one collector’s discerning vision of Vietnamese art. The selection also features a vibrant tropical landscape by Miguel Covarrubias, alongside works by iconic Southeast Asian names such as Hendra Gunawan, Vu Cao Dam, Cheong Soo Pieng, and Pacita Abad, among others.
