Collections: Property from the Estate of Stephen Newman and the Collection of Peter Van Slyke, Part II

Sale Overview

Christie’s New York is proud to present its 2025 Fall Collections online auction, featuring a wide variety of European decorative arts from the Baroque to the Gilded Age. The sale will be open for bidding 7–21 October and is spearheaded by three exciting private collections: the estate of Stephen Newman, featuring a refined selection of eighteenth- and nineteenth-century gilt bronze objects; part II of the Peter Van Slyke Collection of rare Dutch Delftware; and the final instalment of the Orange Blossom Collection of sculptural silver and vertu.

Highlights include a fine pair of Italian Rococo tulipwood commodes, an early Savonnerie pile carpet, a pair of George II mahogany and needlepoint side chairs, and a pair of jewel-like Louis XVI ormolu candlesticks. From the Van Slyke Collection, highlights include a rare black-ground tea-caddy, a group of early tiles, an unusual blue, white and green five-vase garniture, armorial wares and uncommon forms including a ‘cream bowl’ and wig stand. The silver and vertu lots feature an extensive selection of gold boxes, Russian enamels and works by Buccellati and Jensen, among other modern silversmiths.

Additionally, an exciting group of fine minerals adds colour and rarity to the sale. They are led by a spectacular gold specimen from the Eagle’s Nest mine in California, formerly in the Marc Weill collection; many have provenance as illustrious as their appearance.
