This December, Christie’s First Open online auction presents an exceptional selection of works by today’s most significant and in-demand post-war and contemporary artists such as Loie Hollowell, George Condo, Alexander Calder, Andy Warhol, Kenny Scharf, Georg Baselitz and others. Collection highlights include a special section of Andy Warhol polaroid photographs; important drawings from the Estate of Ruth Stanton; color field paintings from the Collection of Arthur K. Solomon; and property from the Saint Louis Art Museum. With estimates that range from $1,000 to $200,000, the First Open sale offers an extensive survey of 20th and 21st Century art for new and seasoned collectors alike.

Michael Baptist

Associate Specialist, Head of First Open | Post-War & Contemporary Art

Michael Baptist is an Associate Specialist and head of the First Open auctions in the Post-War and Contemporary Art department in New York. Prior to joining Christie’s in 2013, he worked for the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art. From 2016-2020, Michael served as a specialist for the Evening Sale auction in New York, and has assisted in the sales of masterpieces such as Jeff Koons’ Rabbit and major collections such as the Robert B. Mayer Family Collection and the Barney A. Ebsworth Collection. Michael specializes in a range of post-war and contemporary artists, and in summer of 2020 he curated a private selling exhibition, For the Love of the Game, on the theme of sports in contemporary art. Michael earned a B.A. in English from Northeastern University in Boston, and studied art history at Studio Art Center International in Florence, Italy.
