Henri Matisse: Lines of Connection, Works on Paper from the Pierre and Tana Matisse Foundation

Henri Matisse: Lines of Connection, Works on Paper from the Pierre and Tana Matisse Foundation

Sale Overview

Christie’s is pleased to present Henri Matisse: Lines of Connection, an online-only auction of drawings and prints by Henri Matisse, offered directly from the Pierre and Tana Matisse Foundation. These pieces capture Matisse's restless experimentation with pencil and ink, burin and lithographic crayon, each line linking one idea to the next.

The sale is led by the decisively modern double portrait in India ink, Deux têtes, as well as a fine example of Matisse’s 1929 lithograph, Le renard blanc. Other highlights include stylized heads, sensual nudes, idyllic landscapes and playful floral compositions.

With a varied selection of 63 works on paper and estimates starting at $800, this sale welcomes all those who admire Matisse to acquire a piece of his legacy. All proceeds will be used to fund grants for arts and arts education organizations throughout New York City.
