Sale Overview

We are pleased to announce our Christie’s Paris Joaillerie Online auction features a finely curated selection of signed vintage pieces by Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Boivin, Boucheron, Bulgari, Chaumet, David Webb among others, as well as contemporary designers. 

This sale offers two rare jewels by Jean Fouquet : an aquamarine, coral, diamond and platinum necklace circa 1935 and a diamond and platinum sautoir circa 1928. This season we have several collections from private collectors with various topics : Art Deco jewels by Mauboussin, Retro jewels by Chaumet, vintage Alhambra collection by Van Cleef & Arpels and Bestiary jewels by Cartier.

The sale will present a broad selection of diamonds, coloured diamonds, coloured gemstones including a fancy intense yellow rectangular cut diamond of 8.04 carats by Lorenz Baumer, a cushion ruby from Burma of 7.05 carats by Boucheron as well as a 15.09 carats diamond ring and an important 29.43 carats sapphire ring from Burma by Burlgari.

Violaine d’Astorg joined Christie’s in 2018 as the Head of the Jewellery department in Paris. Her areas of expertise include Art Deco jewellery and works by Suzanne Belperron and René Boivin. She is also a lecturer and regularly speaks at conferences about the history of jewellery.

Violaine has organised successful sales including the celebrated 1920s actress Marthe Régnier’s collection of René Boivin and Suzanne Belperron jewels (totalling €500,000), an Art Deco bracelet by Cartier, with a 25-carat Burmese sapphire and diamonds selling for € 636,800 and a new record in the auction history, with an Art Deco, coral, onyx and diamond bracelet by Cartier sold for € 442,000 establishing an auction record.

Mafalda Chenu began her career at Christie’s Paris as a Junior Jewellery Specialist in 2015, after having graduated from Warwick University in Art History and from Dauphine University with a master’s degree in Management. She is a qualified gemmologist with a Graduate Gemologist (G.G.) certificate from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in New York. In 2020 Mafalda was appointed Specialist and now plays a key role in undertaking appraisals, research, client development and business-getting for our biannual Jewels auction in Paris as well as for other international sales. During her career at Christie’s, Mafalda has contributed to the sale of many valuable jewels and gemstones including a Cartier Art Deco “Tutti Frutti” bracelet, which sold for CHF1,110,000 in 2020, a 6.09-carat Kashmir sapphire, sold for a price per carat of US$80,000 in 2018, and an Art Nouveau brooch by Boucheron achieving €355,500 in 2018.

Mafalda Chenu débute sa carrière chez Christie's Paris en tant que spécialiste junior au département Bijoux en 2015, après avoir obtenu un diplôme d’Histoire de l'Art à l'université de Warwick et un master en Management à l'Université Dauphine. Elle est gemmologue diplomée Graduate Gemologist (G.G) du Gemological Institute of America (GIA) à New York. En 2020, Mafalda est nommée Spécialiste et occupe à présent un rôle clé dans l’évaluation des bijoux à Paris, les recherches sur les lots, la relation clientèle et la prospection pour nos ventes bi-annuelles de Bijoux aussi bien à Paris qu'à l'international. Au cours de sa carrière chez Christie's, Mafalda a contribué à la vente de nombreux bijoux et pierres de grande valeur, y compris un Bracelet Art Déco « Tutti Frutti » Cartier vendu 1,100,000 CHF en 2020, un saphir du Cachemire de 6.09 carats vendu à 80,000$ par carat en 2018 et une broche Art Nouveau de Boucheron qui a atteint 355,500 en 2018.
