20/21 CENTURY New York
Event date May 2022
Event location New York
This May, Christie’s is thrilled to present The Collection of Thomas and Doris Ammann, offered across two live auctions at Rockefeller Center during the spring 20/21 Marquee Week in New York. Doris and Thomas were siblings and cofounders of Thomas Ammann Fine Art. Throughout their lives, the brother-sister duo supported creative practices, leading artistic endeavours with passionate expertise. On offer are over 100 works from the Ammann's private collection, exemplifying their superior taste for 20th century art.
A curated selection of 36 masterworks from the Ammann collection will be offered in a dedicated Evening Sale on 9 May. Leading this auction is the iconic Shot Sage Blue Marilyn by Andy Warhol — poised to be the most expensive 20th century work to sell at auction. Further highlights from the Evening Sale include masterpieces by Robert Ryman, Francesco Clemente, Sturtevant and Cy Twombly. An additional group of works from this phenomenal private collection will be sold in a dedicated Day Sale. All of the Foundation’s proceeds from the sales will benefit the Thomas and Doris Ammann Foundation, a newly established organisation dedicated to improving the lives of children worldwide.
