Explore the treasures of America’s literary legacy at Christie’s New York. The Bruce M. Lisman Collection of Important American Literature: Part One features a range of printed books and manuscripts from some of the most important writers of the 18th and 19th century, including Phillis Wheatley Peters, Washington Irving, Edgar Allan Poe, Herman Melville, Walt Whitman and others. This collection spotlights Nathaniel Hawthorne’s career with rare materials relating to The Scarlet Letter.
The online-only sale of The Bruce M. Lisman Collection of Important American Literature: Part Two chronicles the development of American literature across the 18th and 19th centuries through writers such as Thoreau, Emerson and Hawthorne, and is especially strong in women authors, including Ann Eliza Bleecker, Susanna Rowson, Hannah Foster and others.
Next, The Magnificent Library of Norman Bobins: Part One, American Color auction expands into hand-colored copper-plate engravings, mezzotints, lithographs and more. From Thomas Moran’s Yellowstone National Park to Karl Bodmer’s Travels in North America, this exceptional collection creates a complete portrait of the early American landscape.
